BREC and Yaka Dandjoo Events invite the community to gather here for a FREE EVENT to share a bite to eat, and enjoy classic First Nations movie The Sapphires (PG) in celebration of NAIDOC Week 2026.
Adapted from Tony Briggs’ play inspired by his mother’s real-life experience, The Sapphires tells the story of four Yorta Yorta women from an Aboriginal mission community. Struggling to find fame or belonging in 1960’s Australia, the singers form a girl-group and chase success entertaining American troops at the height of the Vietnam War. It’s an adventure which sees the four young women learn about love, friendship, and the harsh reality of war.

ARRIVE EARLY to enjoy a bowl of soup from 5:30pm.
The movie screening will start at 6:30pm with a special introduction from BREC Elder in residence, and cast member of The Sapphires, Aunty Lynette Narkle.

Tickets are free, however we encourage pre-booking tickets for catering purposes.

This is a FREE community event made possible by Alcoa; Major Supporter of BREC’s First Nations Focus Program.
