9-year-old Lamia has drawn the short straw. She must bake the cake for her school’s mandatory party for Saddam Hussein’s birthday. As families in 1990’s Iraq struggle through war and food shortages, Lamia uses her wits and imagination on her perilous journey to gather the ingredients before failure brings serious consequences.
